Every Second Saturday, Akasha presents Simmer Down Sound, one of Chicago’s most diverse and unique reggae and dancehall scenes.

On Saturday,March 12th at Double Door‘s Door No. 3 we continue the vibes, hosting the Chicago album release show of Madison Wisconsin’s inimitable Dub Foundation! Dub Foundation is a ten piece original roots-dub reggae outfit, featuring blazing horns, shotgun snares, razor sharp skanks, slashing dubs, slick shot riddims and conscious lyrics. Dub Foundation began taking the Midwest by storm in 2014, and we are pleased to welcome their Simmer Down debut.

From our extended family we bring you a special guest selector, our good bredren KingTony! King Tony, made his name as the dub pioneer and drummer for Chicago’s Illustrious dub outfit, the drastics. He also has appeared as a multi-instrumentalist with national acts like Deal’s Gone Bad,Ralph Soul Jackson, The Pinstripes, JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound, and Chicago’s Heavyweight Dub. In addition to his instrumental prowess Tony is a master studio engineer and has mixed some of the toughest records in soul and reggae. King Tony has some of the nicest 45s from foundation ska, rocksteady and early reggae. His set is not to be missed.

Simmer Down Sound selection is strictly vinyl, and always royal! We bring you reggae and dancehall anthems from the foundation riddims of rocksteady to the big tunes of dancehall, featuring resident selectors:
